Militia Rolls of Upper Canada Roll of Joseph Anderson's Company April 2, 1790

We are grateful to the National Archives of Canada for providing copies of the original lists. N.A.C. Reference M.G. 19 F 35 Series 2, Lot 679, Pages 12 - 15

The following listing of militia officers and enlisted men is a transcription of the original Roll of Joseph Anderson's Company of Militia of the Battalion of Cornwall & Osnabruck, in the District of Lunenburg.

The original is on file at the National Archives of Canada. N.A.C Reference: M.G. 19 F 35 Series 2, Lot 679, Pages 12 - 15. This Muster Roll only recently came into the custody of the NAC and is scheduled to be microfilmed sometime in the late spring or summer of 1998. Reference photo-copies have been taken and are on file at the NAC.

Legend:
First number on the left side of the page denotes age
Then follows name and rank
Then Regiment

The series of five numbers at the end of each line indicate the following:

First number indicates if the man was married,
Second number indicates if the man was single
Third number indicates if the man was absent during roll taking
Fouth number indicates if the man was infirm
Last number indicates "Fusils"
("1" means yes, "0" means it was left blank.)

The hand writing was very difficult to transcribe so allow for potential transcription spelling errors.

"Those Loyalists who have adhered to the Unity of the empire and joined the Royal Standard before the Treaty of Separation, in the year 1783 and all their children, and their Descendants by either sex, are to be distinguished by the following Capitals, affixed to the names: U.E., alluding to their great principles - The Unity of the Empire.
