The Roman Catholic church, St. Joseph De Soulange, is located in Les Cèdres, Québec which lies west of Montreal on the north side of the St. Lawrence River. The first chapel was built at the Cedars in 1728, she served until the construction of the first church in 1781. In 1786, Colonel de Longueuil gave the parish the land where the church was already located. Unfortunately, the parish met many financial difficulties at one point, and considered selling the land but it was understood that any profit from the sale should be paid to the heirs of Colonel, and the parish have nothing. The plan was abandoned and the present stone church was begun in 1879 and was inaugurated in 1881. It is believed that the windows are used, perhaps from a Protestant church, the belfry with three bells was purchased in London, England. On January 14, 1950, a severe thunderstorm knocked down the bell tower that drove the roof of the church was rebuilt but a little lower. 54 pages 8.5" X 11" Index Originally published by MacDonald Research Centre, Brockville, 1991 This edition published by MacDonald Research*, Milton, 2010 *MacDonald Research is an imprint of GlobalGenealogy.com Inc.
