BOOK - Historic Summerside 1900-1970
By Fred Horne
Published by Nimbus Publlishing, Halifax, 2002

Softcover... 19.95 (C$)

The lively city of Summerside is located on the isthmus that separates Prince Edward Island's Malpeque and Bedeque bays. In the days wheri most travel and transport were by sea, the town bustled with the activity of ships and shipbuilding, and with people and goods travelling to and from the island.

Historic Summerside looks at the many roles the Prince County capital has taken on since its incarnation as a mercantile and service centre in the early 1900s-from becoming the world headquarters of the lucrative silver fox industry to its transformation into a military town with a world-class air force base. Besides well-known businesspeople and community leaders like R.T. Holman and Wanda Wyatt, Summerside residents have left an indelible mark on the history of the province-and the country-through their passion for sport, heritage, and culture.

Brilliant photographs from the Read and Sears studio archives, as well as from individual and family collections, illustrate the highs and lows of this town's fascinating and dynamic history.
