The Vital Records of Upper Canada/Canada West series is designed as a critical companion series to the District Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West. Clergy of the Anglican and Roman Catholic faiths were not required to submit marriage records to the District clerks for inclusion in the District Marriage Registers, though many Anglicans and Catholics who married in/by other churches/circuit riders are included. This new series includes both Anglican and Roman Catholic vital records as well as other denominations. This volume of the Vital Records series attempts to combine a variety of parish records and other vital documents to not only replace but to go beyond what should have existed for the Gore District had the early marriage register survived. We hope this new series will provide researchers with the tools to learn about the individuals and families of the Gore District through the birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial and other vital records that survive today. An example of some of the towns and townships where vital event occurred and were reported in the Gore District Vital Record serries include: Nelson, Nassagawaya, Esquesing, Trafalgar, Town of Oakville, East Flamborough, Erin, Saltfleet, Eramosa, Chinguacousy, Ancaster, Town of Brantford, Dundas, Brantford Township, Town of Hamilton, Cayuga, Oneida, Beverly, Barton, West Flamborough, Dumfries, Blenheim, Town of Palermo, Glanford, Brinbrook, Wilmot, Grimsby, Townsend, Gainsborough, Waterloo, Guelph, Town of Paris, Grand River, Tuckersmith, Whitchurch, Town of St. Catharines, Puslinch and a number of other areas. When searching for vital records keep in mind that many returns were submitted by ministers who were circuit riders who often performed ceremonies at great distance from their home bases. Circuit riders reported in the register of the District where they lived which was not necessarily in the same District where the event took place. That said, if you cannot find the vital record your seek in the Gore District you would be well advised to search bordering districts such as the Niagara District Vital Records, the Brock District Marriage Register , the Talbot District Marriage Register, the Wellington District Marriage Register and the Home District Marriage Register. 8.5" X 11" (coil-bound edition) Maps Index Published by Global Heritage Press, Milton, 2000-2005 (cd version 2013)
