A team of Ottawa area volunteers transformed the transcript of Carleton County into a computerized database as an index to the 1851-2 census of Carleton County. Members of the team undertook various tasks including project co-ordination, data inputting, provision of advice on database programs, proof-reading, and research. Subsequently Professor Bruce S. Elliott of Carleton University made his notes available with corrections to the original card index, thus eliminating a number of errors.

Contents include:
  • Map of Carleton County circa 1850, with township boundaries shown
  • The 1851 Census of Canada West (Ontario) overview
  • The 1851-2 Census of Carleton County, Ontario overview
  • List of abbreviations
  • Goulbourn Township Census Records
  • North Gower Township Census Records
  • Marlborough Township Census Records
  • Village of Richmond Census Records
  • (No Index needed insofar as the content is organized alphabetically by surname)
Bear in mind that this index, although a substantial one with many identifying details, does not have all the information in the original record.

Census information listed in this book include:
  • Name
  • Age as of the next birthday
  • Religion
  • Birthplace
  • Locality (Township) on day of census taking
  • Page number on the original census where the complete entry for that individual resides
  • Microfilm reel number where the complete entry for that individual resides
118 Pages
8.5 X 11"
