Coilbound Edition

This book includes a historical account of the cemetery and transcriptions of memorial stones that were standing during the summer of 1978. The cemetery has been vandalised more than once since that time. This publication has value to researchers because it contains transcriptions from several decades ago... the transcribers recorded information from some stones in 1978 that may no longer exist or be readable.

This edition of the book was rekeyed in 2015 by John Patton of the Ottawa Branch of the Ontario Genaleogical Society. No information included in the original edition was excluded. No new information was added beyond that which was included in the 1978 edition.

Contents include:
  • A History of the Old Methodist Burying Ground Perth, Lanark County, Ontario
  • Map - reproduction of an early map of Perth as recorded by H. F Walling in 1863
  • Reprint of the [business and professional] Directory For Perth, Lanark County (2 pages) (recorded about 1858, published 1863 by W.F.Walling, Prescott)
  • References (for history, directory and map)
  • Plan of the cemetery - introduction
  • Plan of the cemetery - map
  • List of Memorial Stone Inscriptions - introduction
  • Memorial Stone Inscriptions (recorded summer 1978)
  • Index to Memorial Stone Inscriptions (click here to browse the Index)
Several of those buried in this cemetery were born in the 18th century, the earliest being Thomas Hoggarth, who, according to his memorial stone, lived to the remarkable age of 106 years. According to local historians, a number of graves and markers from pioneer cemeteries in Perth were moved to Elmwood Cemetery [Perth], but more than 210 persons are still buried here, and about two dozen more relatives are named on the stones.
