This book includes vital information extracted from birth, marriage, wedding anniversary, and death notices that were published in the early newspapers of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada between 1854 and 1877
- The Daily News / The Ottawa Times 1865-1877
- The Daily Union 1861-1866
- The Ottawa Tribune 1854-1862
Every entry includes names, dates and related information about the event, plus the date of issue of the newspaper in which the notice was published, as well as the page and column the item is on. The content of the book is organized alphabetically by surname within each category. Marriage announcements are cross referenced. That means that if you know the name of the bride only , or only the name of the groom, you can still find the record in this book.
This book provides vital information about births, marriages and deaths when used as a standalone resource. It is even more helpful if you decide to expand your research by accessing the complete original newspaper article/notice on microfilm. Because the date of newspaper issue, page number and column for every birth, marriage and death notice is included in this book, you can go directly to the microfilm page that you are interested in, which eliminates searching through hundreds of pages on microfilm to find an entry. The same is true of locating articles and notices in online scanned newspapers. Automated indexing (OCR) of digital images of 19th century newspapers is notoriously incomplete because of poor quality originals and antiquated print fonts that are often not recognized by modern OCR technology. By using this books as a guide, you can quickly and easily go to the correct microfilmed or scanned page where the notice you are interested in appears.
