The Battle of Fort George - 27th May, 1813 was originally published in 1912 by the Niagara Historical Society. Lieut-Colonel Cruikshank begins by providing an historical sketch of the settlement and development of Niagara from the time of settlement up to the beginning of the War of 1812. He continues with an account of the start of hostilities and the evolution of those hostilities into the Battle of Fort George at Niagara-on-the-Lake. The battle took place on May 27, 1813. Cruikshank concludes the book with a detailed description of the losses of men and officers on both the British and American sides. He mentions officers that were lost by name -- men and militia regulars losses are listed number lost by unit.

This book provides an insightful account of the Battle of Fort York by a noted historian.

The publisher extends recognition and thanks to Esther Summers for loaning her original copy of this rare book for use in publishing this historical reprint. The original book is now in the Maholme Foundation Genealogical and Historical Centre library in St. Catharines, Ontario. Mrs. Summers often made margin notes and/or underlined words in her reference books. We've digitally removed those marks where it could be done without damaging the text of the book -- others remain.
