BOOKS - Notices of Births, Conversions, Marriages, Deaths, Obituaries From Methodist Newspapers 1830-1900
By Donald A. McKenzie
Published by Global Heritage Press Milton, 2005-2013 (CDs 2011-2013)

12 Volume set of vital record extractions
from Methodist newspapers.

Book on CD Edition
(a separate CD for each book)

The alphabetical format of the main part of these volumes will enable you to quickly find any of your ancestors whose vital events (birth, marriage, death) were reported in the Canadian Methodist newspapers from 1830 to 1900. Many of the entries are from Ontario, however there are a significant number of entries from coast to coast across Canada, including Newfoundland, and also the Bahamas. Oftentimes the events were previously reported in other newspapers and periodicals. Those newspapers are recorded as sources. That means that researchers may find additional information in the cited newspaper than that that was repeated in the Methodist newspapers and periodicals that were transcribed by Mr McKenzie. Also of note is that some volumes also contain vital events records for people of faiths other than Methodist.

Mr McKenzie's detailed and informative introduction to this work, provides the reader with all the information necessary to understand and use the material.

Index of People [other than the primary person]
Although the content of the books is organized alphabetically by surname of the primary person, there is also an "Index of People" in which you will find the names of people with surnames other than that of the primary person who are mentioned in the announcement. This includes maiden names of married women, names of parents-in-law and sons-in-law, sometimes, names of maternal grandparents etc. By using this index, you may be able to identify connections between your family member and the other people featured in the notice.

Index of Places [mentioned in notices]
The author expended much labour in the preparation of the "Index of Places", which includes pointers to citations that include mentions of locations in Canada, the USA, Britain and other countries, that are mentioned in the notices. By using this Location Index, you may be able to establish patterns of immigration involving your family and their friends and neighbors.
