New Features in Reunion 6

  1. Pictures can be included directly in the family card view. Pictures in a view can also be resized, letting you create a variety of views.



  2. Automatically move boxes off page breaks in charts.

  3. Match & Merge: a new tool to help identify and remove duplicate records in your family file.

  4. The family card window can be resized (up to 1024 x 768 pixels), which permits many more fields in each view and lets you take advantage of higher resolution monitors and larger screens.

  5. List windows, such as the Index, Calendar List, Found List, and Place List can be resized to see more names and longer entries.

  6. Privacy Filtering. Reunion 5 already lets you selectively include/exclude people and branches from reports. The new Privacy Filtering options in Reunion 6 provide the capability to remove information from reports for certain people whom you define as "private." For example, if you publish Web family cards, you may want to keep the details of living people confidential.

  7. Hourglass relative charts. Reunion's relative chart includes all the blood relatives and spouses of a person. The new Hourglass options let you trim a relative chart so that it only includes direct ancestors and descendants (i.e., omit cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.) and, if you prefer, the siblings of the source person and/or all ancestors.

  8. SuperChart supports new default text objects>: captions, titles, return addresses, signature, and dates.

  9. SuperChart has a trash can, allowing you to delete objects from charts by dragging them to the trash. Want to remove a box, branch, picture, or caption? Just drag it to the trash.




  10. New electronic manual. Reunion 6 includes a completely searchable, cross-referenced, linked, full color, electronic manual.

  11. Cross-platform support. Reunion 6 will import Reunion 5 family files, Reunion 6 family files, and Generations Grande Suite 5.2 for Windows family files, providing rich cross-platform support.

  12. Set/Clear flags for everybody, marked people, or unmarked people.




  13. New Web report options, including:

    option to create a flat Web project (no subfolders)

    option to prompt for name of contents page

    choice of file name extension: HTM or HTML

    choice of lowercase or UPPERCASE file and folder names.


  14. GENDEX files can be automatically created with Web output.

    The GENDEX Genealogical Index is a Web server that indexes hundreds of Web databases containing genealogical data for nearly five million individuals. It gives you the ability to locate and view data of interest to you on any of these databases, without having to go and visit each of the databases separately.

    A GENDEX.TXT file is a text file in a particular format designed specifically for automatic indexing. At your option, Reunion will create the GENDEX.TXT file and place it inside the folder containing your Web report or Web family cards.

  15. Reunion 6 uses fewer System Modal dialog windows. In English, this means that you can now click into other applications or the Finder while the Edit Person window, the Log window, or other windows are open. For example, you can use the Application menu to hop into your word processor or e-mail program while your are entering/editing notes or other information in Reunion.

  16. Speed Names remembers up to 250 places and 250 surnames.

  17. Loop and cascade movies.

  18. The Mark Groups window now includes the option to mark spouses. This feature lets you mark descendants and their spouses, or relatives and their spouses, etc.

  19. Changes to the Find Anything feature:

    Supports logical OR operand

    Will search for citations in fields

    Will search in memo fields

    In the People tab, the Conditions pop-up menu now contains...

    • number of bold child buttons
    • number of marked children
    • number of marked parents
    • number of marked spouses

    In the Couples tab, the Conditions pop-up menu now contains...

  20. Changes to Memo fields:

    Memo fields can be displayed in columns of lists

    Memo fields can be included in Register reports, ahnentafel reports, and family history reports.


  21. Changes to Web family cards:

    Pictures can appear directly on Web family cards.

    When you follow a link to a person sheet, the person sheet contains a link back to the Web family card. (It's located at the bottom of the HTML person sheet.)

    Layout window includes the option to remove short dates (these appear beneath the names of parents on Web family cards).

    Web family cards can be created only for family cards with both spouses marked.


  22. Titles of Web documents: The <TITLE> in the header of HTML files for Web family cards, person sheets, and family group sheets reflects the couple on the card or sheet, making it easier for others to bookmark your Web pages.

  23. Age calculations in reports can be excluded where dates are not exact.

  24. Family Card Font size: the font size for child names, parent names, and data fields can be increased to 12 points.

  25. You can save marked sets in lists.


  26. When you attempt to delete a field, Reunion tells you if the field is in use, and lets you see a list of all people who use the field.

  27. When you attempt to delete a source record, Reunion also lets you delete all citations to the source record.

  28. If a list is sorted by soundex number, you can type soundex numbers to jump immediately to a particular soundex number.

  29. The Living Only button in the Calendar List and Relationship List considers a person deceased if there is a burial entry.

  30. In reports and in the Ages window, "age at burial" is not calculated.

  31. Button color, on the family card, can be changed by choosing Options -> Display.



  32. New option to omit indexes in Reports.

  33. When the marital status of a couple is "Unmarried" the status appears in family history reports.

  34. SuperChart charts can be saved as JPEG files, making it easier to post graphic charts on the Web.

  35. A chart's frame may be included when exporting a chart as a PICT or JPEG file.

  36. Repair family file: a new feature that checks your family file for damage or corruption and salvages links and information if the file does become damaged.

  37. Improved support for importing and exporting notes in Gedcom 5.5 format.

  38. Report options relating to sources, citations, endnotes, and ibids have been reorganized into one window.

  39. General Sources are enumerated at the top of the Edit Person window and thus visible in every tab. In addition, General Sources are visibly different from name sources on the family card -- they are assigned a different custom color in the Options -> Display window.


  40. The Report Options window opens to the last selected option.

  41. In chart boxes, the abbreviation for Divorce, Annull, or Separation now appears if one of those statuses is selected for a couple, but no date is entered for the status (assuming of course, that the proper Family Field setting is checked in the Layout window).

  42. Print Preview windows, and SuperChart chart windows now show the current page number and the total number of pages at the left end of the bottom scroll bar.

  43. Timeline Charts have their own unique icon in the Finder.

  44. The Ages window has been redesigned to avoid confusion regarding a person's age when his child was born (vs the child's age).

  45. Find Person warns you if you attempt to search for certain punctuation marks, such as {[(.

  46. Improved progress window, with better feedback -- especially when creating large reports, batch reports, or Web projects.

  47. Family Group Sheets can be created only for family cards with both spouses marked.

  48. New Shortcuts:

    Command+m marks the highlighted name in any list window.

    n + Return clicks the Forward button.

    In the Define Views window, the Delete key can be used to delete a selected field from the view.

    If the Option key is down when you tab or click out of a field, the Initial Caps and Last Name UPPERCASE buttons won't apply. Also, the Custom Date window will not appear.

    If the Option key is down when you open any window, the window will open in the center of your monitor at the default size.

    You can mark/unmark everybody in a list by clicking at the top of the check-mark column.


  49. Questionnaires opened in your word processor now have dotted lines for mailing address (if such fields are included in the report layout).

  50. In the list of note fields in the Edit Person and Edit Family windows, the names of empty note fields appear in gray.
  51. In layouts for person sheets and family group sheets, the Sorting Fields layout setting has a button called Move all Note Fields to the End.

  52. Multiple Monitors are now better supported with respect to placement of windows.
