NFLD-ROOTS mailing list (Newfoundland)
Article posted: August 24, 2001
Contributed by: Sue O'Neill

If you're researching your Newfoundland and Labrador roots, a great place to gather and exchange genealogical data is the NFLD-ROOTS mailing list. The mailing list is sponsored by Rootsweb and there is no charge to subscribe.

Besides genealogy, list topics include, culture, history, folklore, traditions, and customs.

Several of our subscribers offer lookups from various books exclusively for our list members. Random Acts of Genealogy postings to the list have also proven to be a great help to the researcher. The unique spirit of generosity that exists on the NFLD-ROOTS mailing list has made it possible for many of our subscribers to find that elusive missing link.

The mailing list was launched in December of 1998 and as of July 2001 we now have 900 subscribers.

For anyone researching in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, this mailing list has proven to be a valuable tool.

There are two ways you can receive list postings, mail mode or digest mode. Mail mode means you receive the postings as they are sent to the list. Digest mode means you receive the same postings as mail mode, but instead of receiving them individually, you receive one larger message with all the messages posted during the previous 12 hours.

Here's how to subscribe: Once you receive a computer generated confirmation/welcome message, you're officially subscribed and can then send your query or questions to the list.

Hope to see you on the list!
