Installing Family Tree Maker to your Netbook
Posted 03 November 2011
By Rick Roberts,   Biography & Archived Articles

Family Tree Maker software is distributed on an installation disc rather than as a download from the company web site which presented a problem for Global Gazette subscriber Heather Wilson. She has a netbook which does not have a CD/DVD drive. Netbooks are those mini notebook computers that so many traveling family history buffs have come to love for their portability.

Heather could successfully install Family Tree Maker 2012 on her PC but was stymied when faced with putting a copy of the program on her netbook. The User Agreement for FTM 2012 specifically authorizes users to install FTM 2012 onto as many as two computers in a single household. The only problem was the lack of a CD/DVD drive.

Heather emailed to let us know that she contacted Family Tree Maker's tech department to find out how to install FTM 2012 onto her netbook. She had great success and wrote to share the good news.
"the technician [at Family Tree Maker] certainly did have an answer and has sent me the directions to transfer the contents of the CD to a flash drive and install from there"
