YUKON TERRITORY

    In the Yukon Territory civil registration began in 1898, however these early records are quite incomplete. By the 1940s, records are more complete. Yukon Vital Statistics have very little information on a data base and most searches are done from hard copy. The Vital Statistics Agency has records of birth, marriage, and death occurring in Yukon since 1896

    Researchers can apply in person at any Vital Statistics Office or Territorial Agent or (2) By mailing a completed Application for Service form. The application must be submitted to Vital Statistics with the appropriate fee payable by cheque, money order or credit card payable to Government of Yukon. Researchers can also apply by phone if paying by either Visa or Mastercard (867-667-5207).

HISTORIC RECORDS
    For additional information about other historic territorial records, the resources of the Yukon Archives span many years, subjects and media. There is something for practically everyone. The Yukon Archives is a program of the Department of Education of the Government of Yukon. The Archives is responsible for acquiring, preserving and making available documentary sources related to Yukon history, cultures and development. The Archives has a newspaper and archival microfilm collection that is available for loan to libraries and maintains a list of independent researchers who are available on a fee-for-service basis to carry out research requiring more time than is available from Yukon Archives staff. BOOK - The Western Canada Photographers List (1860-1925). By Glen C. Phillips. An invaluable guide to help you identify the place and date when a photograph was taken. Many family history researchers have boxes of photographs, but do not know who is depicted in the photo nor when or where it was taken. This book lists individual photographers, where they worked and when. That means that if you have a photograph that includes a photographer's stamp or other identification you can easily find out when and where that picture was taken. Oftentimes that will help you to identify who is in the picture.
