The award was announced at the May 2009 Annual Convention of the National Genealogical Society in Raleigh, North Carolina. The book, originally launched at the annual convention of the United Empire Lyalists Association of Canada (UELAC), has been very popular with those who are researching their Loyalist (UE) ancestors as well as people who are interested in learning more about those Americans who remained loyal to the British during the Revolutionary War. Merriman discusses what qualified Loyalists (and their descendants) to use the suffix "UE" after their names, which records survive, where those records are, how to access the resources, and explanations of the materials. The book is now available both in hard-cover and coil-bound versions More information about United Empire Loyalists, A Guide to Researching Loyalist Ancestors in Upper Canada Publisher: Global Heritage Press, Milton, Ontario Canadian Genealogy & History Resources from Global Genealogy:
