- Griffith's Valuation Records 1848-1864
( $ ) Irish Origins The "census substitute" for mid-19th century Ireland; the first systematic valuation of all property holdings in Ireland. The version of the survey available here is definitive, containing the most complete set of revisions and amendments available anywhere. Indispensable for Irish genealogy research. The Valuation is arranged by county, barony, poor law union, civil parish , and townland, and lists every landholder and every householder in Ireland--at that time about 1.25 million people.
- Griffiths Valuation 1848-1864 ( free ) ( John Hayes )
Ireland's Valuation office conducted it's first survey of property ownership in Ireland from 1848 to 1864. This survey became known as "Griffiths Valuation". The survey was used to determine the amount of tax each person should pay towards the support of the poor within their poor law union. The resulting survey was arranged by barony and civil parish with an index to the townlands appearing in each volume. Griffith's Valuation can be used as a census substitute for the years after the Great Famine as most censuses prior to 1901 were destroyed. Searchable by name and place.

( $ ) Irish Origins The original maps and town plans used for the Griffith’s Valuation team are now available online exclusively on Irish Origins. The Ordnance Survey (OS) maps and town plans used by the team working on Griffith’s “Primary Valuation” during 1847-1864 still exist, marked up and annotated by those working on the Primary Valuation and subsequently by Valuation Office personnel; some of them contain notes made and signed by Richard Griffith himself.
- Ireland-Australia transportation database ( free ) National Archives of Ireland
The National Archives of Ireland holds a wide range of records relating to transportation of convicts from Ireland to Australia covering the period 1788 to 1868. In some cases these include records of members of convicts' families transported as free settlers.
- Irish Flax Growers, 1796 ( free ) ( John Hayes )
The Irish Linen Board published a list of nearly 60,000 individuals in 1796. Spinning wheels were awarded based on the number of acres planted. People who planted one acre were awarded 4 spinning wheels and those growing 5 acres were awarded a loom. Donegal and Tyrone had the highest number of awards. Dublin and Wicklow were not included in this list. These extracts contain the name, parish and county. Also known as the Spinning Wheel list or the Flax Growers Bounty. ( $ ) Irish Origins A comprehensive list of over 60,000 names and addresses of heads of households, accompanied by scanned images of the original 1847 Ordnance Survey Town Plans of Dublin City, to help users identify specific addresses.
- Dublin City Census 1901: Rotunda Ward
( $ ) Irish Origins Includes details of 13,556 individuals living in over 1,334 properties in the Rotunda Ward in Dublin City, and comprises a full extraction of the data in the relevant 1901 census records.
- Census of Elphin 1749
( $ ) Irish Origins Records for nearly 20,000 people residing in the Diocese of Elphin in 1749. Completeness, detail of occupations, status and households is unique, giving an insight into rural Ireland in the mid-18th century.
- William Smith O'Brien Petition 1848-9
( $ ) Irish Origins The William Smith O'Brien Petition is list of over 80,000 names and places from 1848/9, the time of the Great Famine. It is a valuable census substitute for that time, as well as an important historical resource.
- Irish “strays” in England & Wales Census 1841
( $ ) Irish Origins The 1841 census was the very first in the UK to contain names. A full index to and digitised images of the complete census for England & Wales will become available over the coming months. Users with access to CDs of the original records can use this index alongside these CDs. Counties available now: Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Devon, Dorset, Essex, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire (includes Bristol and its suburbs), Herefordshire, Huntingdonshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Monmouthshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Somerset, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.
- Irish “strays” in England & Wales Census 1871
( $ ) Irish Origins A full index to and digitised images of the original 1871 Census records for the above counties. Further counties will be added on a regular basis. Users with access to CDs of the original records can use this index alongside the CDs. Counties available now: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Glamorgan, London-Kent, London-Middlesex, London-Surrey, Middlesex (ex. Metropolitan area), Norfolk, Staffordshire, Surrey (ex. Metropolitan area), Wiltshire and Worcestershire.
- Index of Irish Wills 1484-1858
( $ ) Irish Origins The Index to Irish Wills, exclusively available online on Irish Origins, covers all wills and related documents, up to 1858, held by the National Archives of Ireland.
- Waterford County Images database ( free ) Waterford County Museum
This site contains more than 3000 historical images of Waterford County places and people [Nov 2006]. You can search for an image by category or browse the collection. Also housed on this site is the Waterford County Museum Online.
- Militia Attestations Index 1872-1915
( $ ) Irish Origins An index to Militia Attestation Papers for over 12,500 militiamen in the Royal Garrison Artillery (present day Royal Artillery) in Ireland. A very fruitful data source for Irish genealogy, with information such as name, age, birthplace, employer, occupation, marital status, statement of service, next of kin, and more. Hard copies of the original documents are also available for ordering.
- British & Irish Passenger Lists 1890
( $ ) Irish Origins 1890 passenger lists from British & Irish ports with US and Canadian destinations. The names of over 100,000 passengers are included. These records are exclusive to The Origins Network.

- Dublin City 1847 Ordnance Survey Town Plans
( $ ) Irish Origins These maps, made available by the Planning Department of Dublin Corporation, are the first detailed town plans of Dublin City to be produced by the Ordnance Survey. They are still used today, particularly by cartographers and city planners and developers.

A database of advertisements from people looking for "lost" friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. 31,711 records that contain a text record each ad that appeared in the Pilot.
County Cork
- Census of Ireland 1851 - County Cork ( free ) ( John Hayes )
The database include some surviving extracts from the 1851 Census of Ireland for four parishes in Cork. The parishes are Kilcrumper, Kilworth, Leitrim and Macroney with only parts of the latter two. Record includes: Name, age, occupation, town land and page. The original records are held in National Archives in Dublin. Search by name or view all the records for a town land with one click.
- Tithe Defaulter Schedules for Cork 1831 ( free ) ( John Hayes )
These schedules are lists of the names of people who did not pay their tithes for some parishes in Cork in 1831. These files were scanned from microfiche and then converted using OCR software. Affidavits for each parish are included.
