BOOK on CD - The Dawn of the Ulster Scots - The Plantation in Ulster, at the Commencement of the Seventeenth Century 1608-1620
By Rev. George Hill, Belfast 1877

On September 17th 1607, the same year as the Flight of the Earls and the Jamestown Settlement in Virginia, Sir Arthur Chichester, King James I's Lord Deputy of Ireland, brought forward two plans for how the Earls' forgeited lands could be developed.

Building on the Scottish foundation which had been established in Co. Down and Co. Antrim by the Hamilton & Montgomery Settlement of May 1606, the Plantation of Ulster began in 1610, bringing thousands of Scottish and English settlers into six of Ulster's western counties - Armagh, Cavan, Donegal, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone.

This double CD ROM set contains a fascimile text-searchable acrobat PDF ebook edition of: "An Historical Account of the Plantation in Ulster at the Commencement of the Seventeenth Century, 1608 - 1620" by Rev. George Hill (published 1877 ~ 636 pages)

The second CD includes high resolution digital files of the Thomas Raven Plantation Maps, published in partnership with the Public Record Office for Northern Ireland. Narrative for the maps has been provided by Professor Raymond Gillespie.

These CDs are viewable on both Macintosh and PC platforms. Adobe Reader is required to view the PDF files - it can be downloaded free from www.adobe.com. Adobe Flash 9.0 Player or above is required to view the Flash file - it can be downloaded free from www.adobe.com. Both of the previously mentioned applications are most likely previously installed on your computer.
