BOOK - The Matter of Wales Epic Views of a small country
England & Wales Genealogy & History More resources for this county (shire) | More English resources sorted by county/topic By: Jan Morris
You must look hard to find Wales in an Atlas, for it is a penninsula not much larger than Swaziland, and inhabited by 2.5 million people. It is called Cymru by its own people, and is tucked away in the British archpelago. Wales has a capital city, not a government, has its own postage stamps but not a currency, a flag but no embassies, and an indiginous language but no indigenous laws. Wales has been absorbed into the political entity of Great Britain, with its seat of power in London. The King or Queen of England is willy-nilly the sovereign of Wales, and the hier to the British throne is known as the Prince of Wales. Join Jan Morris as she takes you on a tour of the Country of Wales, with stories and information, maps and anecdotes. A very interesting read. 442pp., Paper Back
