Books, Maps & Other Resources Genealogy & History BOOK - Discovering British Military Badges and Buttons by R. J. Wilkinson-Latham
This book examines the development of the various styles of head-dress badge, beginning in 1751, when the use of private crests was forbidden, to the first use of 'cap badges' in 1894. From there every style of badge for each regiment is described or illustrated up to the years following the Second World War. Buttons are dealt with, from the first order to number buttons in 1767, through the era of numbered buttons, adopted in 1881. The story of both badges and buttons is completed to the present day, giving details of those of the brigades of 1958 and the 'large' regiments of 1970 and changes since then.
