This book is a transcription of memorial stone engravings in The Old & New St. Andrews West and MacMillan Cemeteries in Cornwall and Finch Townships in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario, Canada as recorded by Edwin McDonald "Some Years Ago" and transcribed into this book by Duncan MacDonald

St. Andrews West, the oldest parish in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry in Ontario, is located in Cornwall Township, in Stormont. The church and its congregation have strong ties to the early history of the province. In fact, the Parish Hall was used as a hospital in the War of 1812. The St. Andrews Church building, as it stands today, was built in 1860. It in the Gothic style, featuring a lofty bell tower and spire. The recreated ‘Log Church’ is a replica of one of the first Catholic churches in Upper Canada.

The first settlers to the parish arrived in the 1780s from New York state. Rev. Roderick MacDonell of Leek arrived from Scotland in 1785. The majority of early settlers to the parish were United Empire Loyalists and others seeking asylum in British North America (Canada) after the American Revolution. One of the largest groups to settle were members of the Kings Royal Regiment of New York (K.R.R.N.Y.).

NOTE about print quality:
GlobalGenealogy.com acquired MacDonald Research Centre after the passing of its founder and primary transcriber/compiler, Duncan MacDonald. We are pleased to make his books available under the new MacDonald Research imprint. Each book has been reprinted as it was prepared by Mr. MacDonald, without corrections or additions. Modern technology helped us reproduce the original work in as-good-as, or better quality as that which was originally published. Much of MacDonald's original work was created on a typewriter. His well-worn "masters" were made on a photocopier. We've cleaned them up as much as possible without re-keying all of the content resulting in books that are useful and complete, but of a print quality that reflects the technology of the time in which they were orignally published.
