This publication is a transcription of births, marriages and deaths from surviving Morrisburg newspapers, largely from 1874 to 1877 plus a few transcriptions from 1879. Morrisburg is the largest community in Dundas County, Ontario and is located on the St. Lawrence River in Williamsburg Township, thirty miles from Cornwall.

Newspapers in nineteenth century Ontario were characterized by frequent changes of names and ownership including the Morrisburg papers. The Morrisburg Banner, founded in 1859 and published in Prescott, was the first newspaper in Morrisburg but it lasted only a short time. The next newspaper published in the community, was The Dundas Courier, which ran from February 24, 1863 to November 24, 1899. Another Morrisburg newspaper was The Herald and St. Lawrence Reporter. The Courier whose starting date is unknown may have lasted until 1889. Documented evidence of the exact date of the final issue remains elusive. The successor to The Courier was The Morrisburg Leader which is still published today.

The transcriptions in this book were recorded from original copies of two of the Morrisburg newspapers - The Dundas Herald and St. Lawrence Reporter and The Courier. These appear to be the only surviving "run" of newspapers from Dundas County before the 1890's period.

Surnames in this Book include: Adams, Algire, Alguire, Allison, Anderson, Archer, Archibald, Armstrong, Ault, Aylsworth, Bailey, Baker, Barclay, Barkley, Barnes, Barregar, Bayley, Beach, Beache, Beatty, Beckstead, Bedstead, Bell, Binion, Bishop, Blacklock, Blackstock, Bonaparte, Bottom, Bow, Bowers, Boyd, Brazeau, Brockway, Brodie, Brown, Bruce, Burson, Bush, Byers, Caeelman, Cameron, Camm, Capell, Carman, Carmichael, Carpenter, Cass, Casselman, Castleman, Chamberlain, Chantler, Cheley, Chestnut, Cinnamon, Clark,Clement, Cline, Cook, Coulthart, Countryman, Craig, Crate, Crawford, Croil, Crysler, Dargaval, Davidson, Davis, Dawson, Dee, Deeks, Delaney, Dense, Desoria, Devitt, Dillabough, Dixon, Dogherty, Doran, Drummond, Duff, Dufferin, Duffy, Durant, Eacutt, Eager, Eagleton, Earl, Elliott, Ellis, Empey, Errett, Erskine, Fader, Faedar, Fallan, Farran, Faull, Feadar, Ferguson, Fergusson, Ferrel, Fetterly, Fishburn, Fleming, Flynn, Ford, Forest, Fox, Foy, Franey, Franklin, Fraser, French, Gale, Gallagher, Gallinger, Gamble, Garner, Giles, Gilleland, Girvin, Gordon, Gow, Gowan, Graham, Grahame, Grant, Grier, Grinnell, Hagan, Haggerty, Hamilton, Hammond, Hanes, Hare, Haskins, Hastie, Hay, Heagle, Heaton,Henderson, Hepburn, Hesson, Hickey, Hill, Hinds, Hippe, Hippee, Hoare, Hodgins, Hogaboam, Hollister, Houselander, Howard , Howes, Hudgins, Hume, Hummell, Irvine, Irving, Jackson, Jamieson, Jenkins, Jessop, Johnston, Jones,Joseph, Kehoe, Kellogg, Ker, Kerr, Kilborne, Kotosk,Kreitzweiser, Kyle, Leishman, Leslie, Lisgar, Lock, Loucks, Lowe,Lyle, MacKechnie,Mallett,Mallory, Manwell, Markell, Marone, Marselis, Marsh, Matthews, Mattice, Mavety, McArthur, McCaslin, McConnell, McCullum, McDonald, McDonnell, McDougall, McGee, McGillvary, McGregor, McIntosh, McIntyre, McKay, McKendry, McKenzie,McKibbin, McLean, McMartin, McMillan, McNeish, McNish, McPherson, McQueen, Mcrae, McRitchie, McVicar, Meade, Meddagh, Meikle, Merkley, Merrick, Millar, Miller, Mills, Moffat, Monteith, Morgan, Morris, Morrison, Morrow, Mulhern,Mullin, Mulloy, Munroe, Nains, Nash, Nichols, Oberry, Osler, Otta,Otto, Ouderkirk, Parish, Patton, Paul, Paups, Peacock, Philips, Phillips, Picken, Picket, Pickett, Porteous, Porter, Powers, Quinn, Redmond, Reid, Reveler, Reyley, Rice, Richards, Richardson, Robinson, Robson, Rose, Ross, Rowat, Russell, Saddlemeyer, Saddlemire, Saddlemyre, Saunders, Sauve, Schults, Schwerdfeger, Scott, Sellars, Shaver, Shaw, Shell, Sherman, Shirk, Sibbald, Sly, Smirl, Smith, Snow, Speers, Spencer, Stallmyer, Stata, Steenburg, Steinburg, Stevens, Stuart, Styles, Suffel, Swift, Thompson, Thomson, Tighe, Todd, Toiphar, Traveller, Tupper, Tuttle, Van Allen, Vancamp, Waddell, Walker, Walsh, Ward, Watford, Weagant, Weegar, Weigle, Weir,Weld, Wellwood,Werely, White, Whitney, Whitteker, Whittiker, Willard, Williams, Wilson, Winn, Wood, Young.
