BOOK - Historically Bound, Embro and West Zorra 1820-2007 - Two Volume Set.
By Dean Robinson.

A brief examination of this set of books leaves me envious of those with connections to Embro and Zorra Township. The Embro and West Zorra Township History Book Committee, and writer-editor Dean Robinson, have done a masterful job of capturing the history of their community, and condensing it into 1654 pages of well written, well researched, local history that is bound into two hefty volumes. Loads of releavant photographs with meaningful captions illustrate the work throughout.

The bulk of Historically Bound, Embro and West Zorra 1820-2007 is organized by Lot and Concession. Land division in southern Ontario townships was set up in a grid. Concession lines run in one direction -- Lots run at 90 degrees to the Concessions. When land ownership was originally transferred from the Crown to the first land owner, the grid system allowed for easy description and identification of property. That system continues today. For example, an individual farm could have been described as Lot 10, Concession 1 of West Zorra Township. The researchers who compiled the information for these volumes, examined the history of each lot, and of the people who have lived on them since 1820. A Herculean task that every reader will appreciate.

Everyone with roots in Embro and West Zorra Township will want a set of these books for their family, and to pass onto their children and grandchildren.
