Books, Maps & Other Resources Halton County, Ontario Genealogy & History More Canadian Resources | More Ontario Resources More Halton County Resources BOOK - Burlington- The Growing Years. by Dorothy Turcotte.
Peter Newman, an ex-Burlington resident and one of the most interesting historical writers in Canada, has written, " It is personal encounters that make history, which is no more than memories refined, come alive." That is exactly what the Book Committee of the Burlington Historical Society has tried to do in this second volume on families who played a part in the history of Burlington. The Book Committee members plumbed the memories of many local residents. The story strands that are provided were then woven by Dorothy Turcotte into an interesting and informative history of this community in the 20th Century.Book Two should be a required companion book to our first effort, Burlington: Memories of Pioneer Days. Again, the many hours spent in interviewing, reading notes, collecting pictures and maps have seemed endless. The B.H.S would like to thank the Book Committee members, Irma Coulson, chairperson, Mary Fraser, Florence Meares, and Ruth Borthwick. Thanks also to the members of the Burlington Historical Society who helped in various ways, and to the interviewees who co-operated so graciously. Special thanks are in order to Katherine Clifton and Edna Phillips who also proofread the manuscript. 272 pp., Soft Cover, 6" x 9", 1992, ISBN 0-9696575-0-1.
