A small agricultural community grew up around the first grist mill operated by Jasper Martin when he settled on this grant of crown land in 1821. The mill sparked other commercial development; by 1836 the settlement celebrated it's first post office. In 1853, when Halton County separated from Wentworth, Milton was designated as the location of the new County buildings. Thus Milton became the County Town of Halton continuing until the introduction of regional government in 1973. Plans of subdivision were first registered in 1854 and street patterns emerged. In 1857 the town was incorporated; it's boundaries remained unchanged until 1953. Join us, as we take you on a walk in historic Milton, The county town of Halton. Booklet, 19pgs.
