Books, Maps & Other Resources (Upper Canada, Canada West) Concerns more than one County Main District Marriage/Vital Records Page What Are The District Marriage/Vital Records & Why Are They Important? Map of Ontario Districts 1836 | Map of Ontario Districts 1845 More Ontario Resources | More Canadian Resources BOOK - GORE DISTRICT VITAL RECORDS Vol 2, Part 3: 1806 - 1869 Compiled by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai Published by Global Heritage Press Vital Records of Upper Canada/Canada West is designed as a critical companion series to the District Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West. Clergy of the Anglican and Roman Catholic faiths were not required to submit marriage records to the District clerks for inclusion in the District Marriage Registers. This series will attempt to include both Anglican and Roman Catholic vital records as well as many other denominations and records not included in the District Marriage Registers. In March of 1816 the Gore District was created out of parts of the West Riding of the County of York in the Home District, the first riding of the County of Lincoln and the County of Haldimand in the Niagara District. The Gore District included the present counties of Halton, Wentworth, Brant, Waterloo & Wellington, parts of Haldimand and Lincoln counties. In June of 1840, the counties of Waterloo and Wellington were separated out of the Gore District to form the Wellington District. This volume of the Vital Records series attempts to combine a variety of parish records and other vital documents to not only replace but to go beyond what should have existed for the Gore District had the early marriage register survived. We hope this new series will provide researchers with the tools to learn about the individuals and families of the Gore District through the birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial and other vital records that survive today. Records included in this volume include:
