Book-on-CD Edition

This book grew from modest beginnings into a comprehensive history as the writer advanced the project. The author originally accepted the responsibility to assemble a paper on the topic of the settlement of the Bay of Quinte Region. He was especially keen on the project insofar as he had been a resident of Belleville, Upper Canada (Ontario) for a time. The "paper grew into a book on the Bay of Quinte Region. As the work proceeded, Canniff soon realized that in order to prepare a book about the settlement of the Bay of Quinte Region, one had to discuss many topics that concerned the entire province. The final result was this substantial and highly regarded book, which provides an informed insight into the history of the entire province as it was known in 1869.

The book includes an extensive 24 page Table of Contents that is broken into the following sections:
  • A Sketch of Franco-Canadian History
  • The Rebellion of 1776 - The Thirteen Colonies
  • Traveling in Early Times - Original Routes
  • The Loylists as Pioneers - The Original Survey
  • The First Years of Upper Canada (Ontario)
  • The Early Clergymen and Churches
  • Early Education in Upper Canada
  • The Territory of Upper Canada - The Bay of Quinte
  • The First Ten Townships in the Midland District
  • The Early Government of Upper Canada
  • The Early Militia of Upper Canada
  • Advance of Civilization
  • The United Empire Loyalists - The Fathers of Upper Canada
  • Appendix
    • Roll of the 2nd Battalion King's Royal Regiment
    • The Governors of Canada
    • Indian Goods
