Frontenac County, Ontario Genealogy & History More Canadian Resources | More Ontario Resources More Frontenac County Resources BOOK - 1861 Census, Portsmouth Village, Kingston Pen. Rockwood Asylum and Forts Henry & Frederick. Frontenac County (Ontario, Canada). By Russ Waller, U.E. The transcription of the 1861 Census of Portsmouth Village still separately incorporated in 1861, is a natural companion to the earlier transcription of the Census of the City of Kingston. It will be seen that a significant number of the family heads appear in the 1851 Agricultural Census of Kingston Twp. Indicating that there was probably no separate census in 1851 for Portsmouth. Since the 1851 Census for Concession one of Kingston Twp., has been lost, we will never know whether the inmates of the Provincial Penitentiary and the Criminal Lunatic Asylum were listed in that year. With the addition of information gleaned from other Census and other published family research materials it was possible to update the 1861 Census and make it more genealogically relevant. Contains names, age, sex, birthplace, religion, occupation (where noted) townships and sources. 8 1/2 x 11, cerlox bound, 54 pgs
