The Story Of Dundas, written by J. Smyth Carter in 1905, is a history of the County of Dundas, Ontario (Upper Canada, Canada West) from 1784 to 1904. It is filled to the brim with information on the settlement of the county, topography, geology, agricultural development, education, and politics. There are several chapters dedicated to the townships contained within Dundas County containing descriptions of early settlement and settlers and citizens as well as many biographical sketches, notices of early settlers and the "first families".

The "first families" appendix includes a detailed list of founding families, organized by the Lot and Concession on which they settled. Southern Ontario rural properties are organized in a grid system of Concessions and Lots.
