Historic Sketches of Oshawa provides readers with a history of the settlement and development of what became the city of Oshawa Ontario. Beginning with early Oshawa, T. E. Kaiser discusses the formation of social, education and religious institutions with a strong focus on developments of industry in the later half of the 19th century.

In his introduction, T. E. Kaiser tells readers that due to a "strange chain of circumstances, certain documents of historic value have been quietly accumulating in my possession. I regard it as a duty which this generation owes to posterity that the history of our forefathers should not be forgotten". Indeed, as a result of Mr. Kaiser's life-long habit of collecting of documents and his dedication to put them in print in 1921, those forefathers will not be forgotten.

Historic Sketches of Oshawa is illustrated with portraits of several individuals who were influential in early Oshawa.

This book is considered an essential read for everyone who has an interest in the settlement and development of Oshawa and the its people, prior to 1921.
