Military - Canada, BNA Genealogy & History More Canadian Resources | More Canadian Military Resources BOOK - From Lochnaw to Manitoulin. A Highland Soldier's tour through Upper Canada By: Scott A. McLean. Research into the 93rd regiment of Highlanders who served in Upper Canada in 1838-1848 brought the Author upon a significant collection of documents called the "Lochnaw Muniments", housed at the Scottish Record office in Edinburgh. The collection includes a variety of leters, a diary and a journal kept by Leiutenant Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, who served with the 93rd from 1835-1842. His correspondance with his family back in Scotland provided a wealth of information on the 93rd highlanders, military life in a colonial garrison and the regiment's part in the defense of canada. One document in particular is highligted in this book. It is the Journal he kept while travelling to Manitoulan island to attend the annual gift giving ceremony between the government representatives and Native leaders. Lt. Agnews colorful descriptions of the men and women, including the native peoples he met, the settlements and the flora and fauna encountered en route, made it a document which author felt others should have the opportunity to read. Soft cover, 93pp
