Essential for the War of 1812 researcher

The Documentary History of the Campaign on
the Niagara Frontier 1812-1814

(Purchase nine volume set or one-at-a-time)
Cruikshank's collection of correspondence and papers has provided generations of historians and genealogists with detailed firsthand accounts of events and personal experiences during The War of 1812. The original books (1896-1908) were printed on low quality paper that has dramatically deteriorated over the years, making original copies extraordinarily difficult to find and easily damaged when used. This new printing is on acid-free paper and bound in premium grade materials, designed for durability and attractive appearance.

The correspondence and papers that are included in The Documentary History of the Campaign on the Niagara Frontier provide the reader/researcher with accounts covering a wide spectrum -- "Most Secret and Confidential" military letters; returns of killed, wounded and missing; lists of civilian damages; lists of "persons plundered"; administrative correspondence; and other topics relating to the war, both military and civilian.

Each volume includes a comprehensive index. Volumes 1& 2 are bound into a single book because they are sequentially page numbered with a single index covering both volumes. Volumes 3 through 9 are all individually bound, each with its own index.

Every reference library in Canada and USA needs at least one set of The Documentary History of the Campaign on the Niagara Frontier 1812-1814 [War of 1812]

Check the indexes for persons of interest: Vol 1&2, Vol. 3, Vol. 4, Vol. 5, Vol. 6, Vol. 7, Vol. 8, Vol. 9.

About the author:
Brigadier-General Ernest Alexander Cruikshank (1853-1939) was born in Bertie Township, Canada West (Ontario), on 29 June 1853, and was educated at Upper Canada College in Toronto. He was for some time (1908) in charge of military manuscripts in the Public Archives of Canada, and between 1918 and 1921 was Director of the Historical Section of the General Staff in Ottawa. He also served as Chairman of the Historical Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, beginning in 1919. He was a member of various historical societies; was president of the Ontario Historical Society 1921-22; and was a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society of England, as well as of The Royal Society of Canada . He authored a long list of highly regarded books and papers relating particularly to the War of 1812 and to the history of Upper Canada (Ontario). His "books and papers, have been and will continue to be of incalculable value to students of Canadian history" (The Royal Society of Canada, on the occasion of him being awarded the Tyrrell Medal in 1935.
