Canada - General Genealogy & History ( Topics That Concern More than One Province ) More Canadian Resources Volume 10 - Obituaries From The Christian Guardian, 1884 to 1890 by: Donald A. McKenzie From Global Heritage Press
The Christian Guardian was a weekly newspaper which was published in Canada for members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church from 1829 until 1925. This book is the 10th volume of genealogical extractions from Methodist newspapers that have been done by Donald A. McKenzie. Many of the earlier volumes were out of print, however they are now back in print. The alphabetical format of the main part of this volume will enable you to quickly find any of your ancestors whose deaths were reported in the Christian Guardian between July 1884 and December of 1890. Mr McKenzie's detailed and informative introduction to this work, provides the reader with all the information necessary to understand and use the material. There is also an "Index of People". In this cross-reference index you will find the names of people with surnames other than that of the deceased who are mentioned in the obituaries. This includes maiden names of married women, names of parents-in-law and sons-in-law, sometimes, names of maternal grandparents etc. By using this index, you may be able to establish connections between your family and the people featured in the obituary. The author expended much labour in the preparation of the "Index of Places", which includes roughly 2500 locations in Canada, the USA, Britain and other countries, that are mentioned in the obituary extractions. By using this index, you may be able to establish paterns of immigration involving your family and their friends and neighbours. The compiler also provides a comprehensive table of abbreviations that he used, listed by category: references, main text, vital records, family relationships, geographical terms, Ecclesiastical terms, and other abbreviations. 618 pages obituary extractions are organized aphabetically by surname Index (places) Index (cross-referenced people) case-bound (hard cover) 6" x 9" published 2005 by Global Heritage Press: ISBN 1-897210-79-5 This is the second printing: ISBN 9781897210796
