BOOK - Canadian Records of Birth, Marriage and Death: A Guide
By Fawne Stratford-Devai
Published by Global Heritage Press
The government registration of births, marriages and deaths, is usually referred to as civil registration and the records as "vital records". In Canada, the responsibility for all aspects of civil registration falls to the individual provinces and territories. This guide is designed to provide a general overview and introduction to Canadian vital records in all jurisdictions across Canada.
The records of many First Nation's people are an exception to the general sources offered in this guide. Traditionally, records of First Nation's people (aboriginal people) have been recorded by the federal government in Ottawa and often excluded from traditional church or other records unless the individual(s) converted to Christianity.

- Introduction
