BOOK - Acadian Genealogy and Notes Concerning the Expulsion
By Placide Gaudet
Placide Gaudet, undoubtedly the first widely-accepted expert in Acadian genealogy, presented his first genealogical work for publication in 1905 in the Canadian Archives annual report. Employed by the Public Archives of Canada, Gaudet devoted much time to gathering information about the Acadians.
Originally published in 1906, then reprinted by Quintin Publications in 1996, Acadian Genealogy and Notes Concerning the Expulsion is a compilation of genealogy and historical notes, lists and other material useful to the Acadian researcher. Lists include names of those who signed Oaths of Allegiance, requested return to France etc.
Information in this book was gathered from public and private sources in Canada, the United States, France, and Britain. In addition to substantial sections devoted to Acadians both in Canada and in the deported areas of the world, Gaudet provides the genealogies of three specific Acadian families:
- Bourgeois
- Lanoue
- Belliveau
Please note that the book has both English and French language content. The initial narrative is in English however something more than 50% of the content is written in French. The index and explanations of index items are written in English.
