TOWN HALL MEETINGS

This page contains links to a number of reports and presentations made by those attending Town Hall Meetings relating to public access to Historic Census Records. While these meetings, and the Focus Groups that are held following each meeting, are primarily concerned with the 1906 and 1911 Census records, it is expected that they will pave the way for access to subsequent Censuses. Click the City link to access the reports and presentations for that city.

We consider these meetings and focus groups to be a waste of taxpayers money. The Report of the Expert Panel on Access to Historic Census Records has already come down in favour of public access to these records. In two previous sets of focus groups and national surveys conducted on behalf of the Expert Panel, it is felt that Statistics Canada did not obtain the negative results that they sought. Hence the current series of Town Hall Meetings and Focus Groups. We cannot help but wonder how many series of meetings and focus groups will be held while Statistics Canada tries to obtain the negative responses they seek.
